From September 14 to November 16, our affiliate hosted NAMI's peer-to-peer education course.  The course was offered free of charge to people who experience mental illness.  It was taught by individuals who are themselves experienced at living well with mental illness.  The following comments were provided by some of the participants:

"This course has helped me to feel better about my mental illness."

"The course had great information and was positive.  It's nice to know I am not alone and that others feel the same way."

"The course made me more aware and helped me to advocate better for myself."

"When I first came to the course I thought the idea of recovery was someone's joke.  Now I see myself heading towards recovery.  I am more self-assured, happier, and more hopeful."

"The course gave me a better understanding and also the realization that I am not alone.  I want to be an advocate for mental illness."

"One thing I've learned is to be more open about my mental illness.  It was good having group support and it raised my self-esteem a little bit."
